Gordon Hayward, the 6’8″ coveted, All-Star small forward from the Utah Jazz is leaving his only NBA team he’s been with to join the Boston Celtics. Hayward will receive a max contract covering four years and $128 million from Boston.

His signing could very well change the balance of power in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. (Don’t worry, Knicks fans, this won’t affect you or your team at all).

With the Cleveland Cavaliers roster very much in flux and the possibility of LeBron James taking his talents to the west coast to play for the Lakers or the Clippers when his contract with Cleveland expires next season, the Celtics, with enormous talent throughout their roster (don’t worry Knicks fans, we aren’t talking about Ron Baker, here), they are in a position to ride Hayward to a conference championship next season.

Hayward’s contract will have a player option in the fourth year, league sources told The Vertical.

Hayward mulled over his decision Tuesday and formally announced his decision to join the Celtics on Tuesday night.

Hayward visited with the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics and met with the Jazz before finalizing an agreement with Boston.

Hayward was an All-Star this past season, averaging 21.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

He will be a key piece for the the Celtics moving forward after shooting 39.8 percent from 3-point range with the Jazz.

He played his first seven NBA seasons with the Jazz, who selected Hayward out of Butler with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft.
