I’m a big Tiger Woods fan.

Since Woods was forced to the sidelines with numerous injuries to his body and to his psyche, beginning in 2008, I have always hoped he’d come back and ignite a golf tour that has been as boring as the 2017 NBA playoffs.

But, today’s news, his arrest and jail time for a suspected DUI in Jupiter, Florida, represents Tiger Woods at rock bottom, and continues what we’ve been witnessing in Woods since he won his last major tournament in 2008; a slow and steady fall of a once all-time great athlete whose career and life has spun out of control since his then-wife, Elin Nordegren-Woods, took a 9-iron to his face on November 27, 2009 and beat him silly.

The legendary golfer was taken into custody at 3 a.m. and Palm Beach County Jail records indicated that he was released from custody at 10:50 a.m.

Maybe, he had to fall all the way down to this, culminating in an ugly mug shot which surely will join the infamous list of celebrity mug shots circulating on the internet, to finally begin to heal himself. We’ll see. But, watching a star, not a shooting star but the most dominant, enduring athlete in the world for more than a decade, fall from grace on a professional and personal level in so public a manner is just sad. It’s almost like viewing a slow death.

Since that fateful day,  at Woods’ home in Windemere, Florida, when his wife chased him with that golf club after discovering her philandering husband was having affairs with different women, Woods’ life and career haven’t been the same.

He fell from grace in the eyes of his fans. He was dropped by most of his sponsors, who had helped make him one of the wealthiest athletes in the world. His fellow golfers, who never enjoyed Woods’ arrogance towards them for all the years he was dominating the sport, shunned him completely.

His series of announcements prior to big tournaments that he had pulled out for one reason or another had become commonplace.

Herniated discs, torn knees, infidelities, and now, a DUI have a way of tearing down sports idols. Tiger Woods is officially torn down. He is at the most precarious time in his life, where his personal and professional lives appear to be crumbling. He is a private man who has protected his public image with ferocity so it’s been near-impossible for even his closest buddies to truly understand him. We don’t know what makes Woods tick, deep down.

The larger question is, does Tiger Woods, himself, know what makes him tick and will Woods ever get back up from whatever depths he is currently in?

Below is a list of Woods’ mishaps and missteps since 2009, almost eight years ago:

November 2009

Woods is injured in a car accident on November 27. He hit a fire hydrant and a tree in his driveway in Orlando, Florida. The National Enquier alleges that Woods had an affair with a New York night club hostess. Woods’ wife, Elin Nordegren, smashed the window of Woods’ car to pull her husband out. Woods takes responsibility for the accident. On November 30, Woods is issued a traffic citation for careless driving and is fined $164.
