Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant is embroiled in a court fight with his mother.

Bryant, who is recovering from a torn Achilles he suffered late this past season, is suing his mother for attempting to auction off some of Bryant’s memorabilia from high school and early in his NBA career. Since reports surfaced that Pamela Bryant and Goldin Auctions planned on auctioning off the items, Bryant’s attorneys sent his mother and the auction house a cease-and-desist letter to stop the auction.

The expected sale of the Kobe Bryant items could net him an estimated $1.5 million.

Goldin Auctions have filed their own lawsuit against Kobe Bryant according to TMZ. The suit states that Pamela Bryant told the West Berlin, N.J.- based auction house that Kobe Bryant did not want the items anymore and told her they could be sold. Goldin is also suing for a $450,000 advance on the items that was given to Pamela Bryant. She has since used the advance to buy a new home in Nevada.

Kobe Bryant’s lawyer Mark Campbell at the law firm Loeb & Loeb in Los Angeles sees it differently.

“Mr. Bryant’s personal property has ended up in the possession of someone who does not lawfully own it,” said Campbell. “We look forward to resolving this legal matter through the legal system. There will be no comment at this time.”

According to Philly.com, the items that could be up for bid include shorts, jackets, jerseys and varsity letters from Kobe Bryant’s time at Lower Marion High School in Ardmore, Pa. The items also include NBA All-Star rings and championship rings in addition to trophies he won during his senior year of high school. Bryant was drafted 13th overall in the 1996 NBA Draft.

Bryant’s mother alleges that she has had possession of the items in question for at least 15 years. The cost of the storage of the items cost her $1,500 per month according to court filing. The filing also claims that her son gave her the items, stating that he told his mother, “Here Mom, these are for you.”

After receiving the cease-and-desist letter, Goldin Auctions called Pamela Bryant, who is currently in Thailand. Kobe’s father Joseph “Jellybean” Bryant is currently coaching a Thailand basketball team. He spent time in the NBA but mostly spent his professional career playing in Italy.

According to Goldin, Pamela Bryant assured the house that she was the rightful owner of the items and that the auction can move forward.

Kobe Bryant has not commented on the legal matter as of yet.
