New York — According to reports in the New York Post, the Mets are considering trying to re-acquire Brewers RHP Francisco Rodriguez, their former closer.

Yesterday, in the Post, it was reported by Ken Davidoff, “The Mets want to upgrade their bullpen, and Rodriguez is on their list of targets.”

Last week, Davidoff said the Mets were looking outside the organization for bullpen help and are expected to be involved in trade talks for Padres closer Huston Street, Astros RHP Brett Myers and A’s closer Grant Balfour.

According to various published reports, the Mets are more likely to trade for a player like Rodriguez, who would not cost a top prospect, because he’s due roughly $4 million the remainder of this season before becoming a free agent.

“He knows all the guys already,” said one reliable source, “and he’s pitched in New York.”

Mike Puma, Post baseball writer wrote, “There are no concerns evident within the Mets clubhouse about reuniting with Rodriguez.”

“The people outside don’t know what kind of guy this guy is,” Josh Thole told Puma yesterday about Rodriguez. “He made one mistake.”
