New York — In an exclusive interview with SportsReporters.com’s Scott Mandel, former Knicks great Patrick Ewing pronounced he was ready, willing and able to become a head coach in the NBA and he was putting his hat in the ring for the New Jersey Nets job, which just opened up this past Monday with the firing of Lawrence Frank.

“I would love to be considered by the New Jersey Nets for their head coaching job,” Ewing said.  “I still have a house in New Jersey, I played most of my career up here, and I’m ready to coach a team.”

Ewing was talking to SportsReporters.com in the post-game locker room after Orlando had defeated the Knicks on Monday at Madison Square Garden.

“I’ve had some disappointments in not getting contacted for certain coaching jobs but I’m fully ready to run a team, now,” said the Hall of Fame center. “I think I can help  bring a championship to New Jersey or any other team I get the opportunity to coach.”

Ewing began to break down the Nets personnel.

“I know Courtney Lee from his time with the Magic,” he said. “I love Brooke Lopez’ game and I think I can make it even better. Chris Douglas-Roberts and Devin (Harris) and Terrence Williams are good players. They can win.”

Nets President Rod Thorn  filled the coaching spot on a temporary basis by appointing General Manager Kiki Vandeweghe  to finish out the rest of this season on the bench. He’ll be assisted by NBA veteran coach, Del Harris.
